Acrylics vs. Gel-X vs. Dip Powder: Which Is Right for You?

April 28, 2026 6 min read

Choosing between acrylics, Gel-X, and dip powder can be confusing. Here's a quick guide from our team at Heaven Nails & Spa.

Acrylic Nails

Acrylics are the classic enhancement — a powder and liquid monomer mix sculpted over your natural nail or a tip. They're strong, customizable, and ideal for longer shapes like coffin and stiletto. Expect a full set with gel polish to start around $50 and fills around $40.

Gel-X

Gel-X uses pre-shaped soft-gel tips bonded with gel and cured under UV light. The result is lightweight, natural-feeling, and damage-free on removal. Full sets start around $55. Great if you want length without the heaviness of acrylic.

Dip Powder (SNS)

Dipping powder skips the lamp — your nail is dipped into a colored powder and sealed. It's durable, odor-free, and gentle on natural nails, with sets starting at $40. Best for shorter, natural-length nails.

Which should you pick?

  • Want maximum length and art? Acrylic.
  • Want the most natural look? Gel-X.
  • Want low-maintenance everyday wear? Dip powder.
