Have Weak or Peeling Nails? Here's What We'd Actually Recommend
We hear this a lot: "My nails are so weak, is it even worth getting them done?" Yes — but the service matters.
Why nails get weak
Usually it's a mix of: over-filing at past appointments, picking off gel or dip, harsh household chemicals, medication changes, or just genetics. The nail plate thins, layers separate, and every set feels like it "ruined" your nails further.
What we'd suggest
Start with a builder gel overlay. No tips, no length — just a thin protective layer of gel cured over your natural nail. It reinforces the plate so your nail can grow out underneath without splitting. Two or three fills of this and most people see a real difference.
Then consider Gel-X for length. Gel-X is lighter than acrylic and removes with a soak — no heavy filing to break the seal. Much gentler on already-fragile nails.
Avoid dip powder for now. Dip requires filing between layers and the removal process is rougher. Come back to it once your natural nails are stronger.
What to do between visits
- Cuticle oil daily — not weekly. Daily.
- Gloves for dishes and cleaning.
- Don't peel. Ever. Come in for a proper soak-off.
- Ask your tech to *not* file the top of your natural nail during a fill — this is the #1 cause of thinning.
The honest truth
Weak nails don't get fixed in one appointment. Give it 6–8 weeks of consistent care and you'll see the difference. Book a consultation and we'll build a plan together.
